Greenwich Police Cadet Explorers participated along with 375 other Police Cadets in the 4th Annual Cadet Police Academy which was held at the University of Hartford from July 28 to August 03, 2013. The Cadet Police Academy, under the umbrella of the Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Education Association (NERLEEA) is a paramilitary style Police Academy for Police Explorers and Cadets ages 13-21. This year’s Academy was attended by Cadets from 34 different towns and from the States of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

Cadets are instructed based upon age and experience in the program. The instruction covers both classroom and hands on training in police related topics. Cadets will also participate in the Cadet Police Department (CPD), where they respond to scenarios and are evaluated on the various skills learned in past programs. The Senior Cadets join the Career Development Program focusing on preparation for a career in Law Enforcement. Career Development Cadets take entry level police examinations, prepare résumé and sit for oral interviews.

Greenwich Police Cadets Explorers is a Learning for Life program through the Greenwich Boy Scouts of America. There were 17 explorers from Greenwich who participated in this year’s Academy. The Greenwich Police Cadets won numerous awards. Cadet Christian Siliva won the basic program marching competition award, Cadet Sarah Carlo won the 2nd Place overall academic award, Cadet Sabrina Wala and Liz Termini won the 1st place DWI investigation award, Julia Tedesco won 3rd place crime scene award, and Jason Delvecchio won 1st place Practical Skill competition out of 72 cadets and Cadet Sergeant Karla Morales won 2nd place practical skills competition out of 72 cadets.

The Greenwich Cadets are looking forward to participating in the 2014 National Explorer Conference which will be held in Indiana in July of 2014.
